The BET has announced that comedian and actor Chris Tucker will be hosting this year’s BET Awards on June 30, live from the Nokia Theater in the City of Angels, Los Angeles. This is another big feather for Tucker’s hat, coming right on the heels of his acclaimed supporting performance in “Silver Linings Playbook.” Bradley Cooper, star of “The Hangover” series, and Jennifer Lawrence, best known for “The Hunger Games,” were the stars of the film, which garnered an Oscar® nomination. Tucker’s previous claim to fame was for appearing in the “Rush Hour” films with Jackie Chan. It seems at 41 years of age, Tucker has arrived.

The all new BET Awards have come of age too. Instead of a single evening celebration, the BET has a new format, a new name and more events and things to do than ever before. The new name is the “BET Experience at L.A. Live.” The new format lasts three days, and features many concerts with the hottest performers today, including Beyonce, R. Kelly, Miguel, Kendrick Lamar and The Jacksons. It all gets started on June 28, with the awards show bringing it all to a close on Sunday.

The expanded festival has six stages, a fan fest, film festival, a Grammy® Museum, comedians, many daily seminars and a BET Youth Program meant to teach local high school students about the music business. They’ll study event production, music journalism and the history and impact of African-American culture to music.
