WHO WILL BE THE BREAKOUT STAR AT THE TEEN CHOICE AWARDS?
There’s no question that shows like the Teen Choice Awards have jump-started many careers, especially for younger actors who are moving from their teens into more mature roles. This year’s Teen Choice will be held on August 16 at Universal City’s famed Gibson Amphitheatre in the only city that really matters, Los Angeles.
If you want to be a plebe, you can watch it on Fox on your friend’s dirty old couch, but you’ll have a better time if you attend the show in person, which is like the easiest thing to do. Vipawardshowtickets.com is the place to pick up your passes to the only awards show dedicated to all things teen, and teens are the ones who do the nominating and the voting.
We’d like to focus on the Breakout Star category, since our lead leads us to that very topic. From this group of nominees, there are stars from shows of all kinds. This category is quite diverse for that reason. They had parts in everything from superhero shows (its own category, really), dramas and comedies, so it’s hard to guess who might come away with the coveted surfboard award, but there are a few favorites.
First, here’s the list of nominees. Bryshere “Yazz” Gray for “Empire” (Fox), Grant Gustin for “The Flash” (The CW), Candice Patton for “The Flash” (The CW), Gina Rodriguez for “Jane the Virgin” (The CW), Yara Shahidi for “Black-ish” (ABC) and Jussie Smollett for “Empire” (Fox).
So who do we think can take home the ‘board? Based on the social-media traffic to this point, it seems that Gustin is the favorite. His show is an unqualified hit, and shows on the CW always fare well at this show. Most people feel that he deserves to win, except maybe the actors who are competing against him. His character really brings it to the super-hero genre. He lends realism to an otherwise surrealistic fantasy show.
If this were any other year, Smollet would probably win, but it’s not. It’s this year and Gustin is hot. Rodriguez is also a possible winner. All three of these young actors should and probably will get EMMY award nominations.
And you should, and probably will, get tickets to the Teen Choice Awards from Vipawardshowtickets.com. If you don’t, you’ll be as sad as a pizza with no toppings.
