American Idol to Go Out with a Bang

February 02,2016

Since 2002, television viewers have cheered on their favorites on the American Idol TV show. It had an unheard of weekly number one shows stretching from 2003 to 2011. The series was so popular that even the wanna-be’s wound up with recording contracts. Many stars got their big break on the wildly popular program. The show also spawned several shows that tried to copy its successful formula but were never able to capture the magic of American Idol.

But all things must pass, as George Harrison said on his solo album, and American Idol is no exception. True to form, it’s going to go down kicking and screaming. The final season will be shortened by four weeks, and the finals show will be extended across three nights from April 5 to April 7. On the fifth, there will be a retrospective entitled American Idol: American Dream, celebrating the many years the show dominated the broadcast world. It will feature Ryan Seacrest, current and former judges, contestants and the behind-the-scenes team sharing their Idol memories. It’s all happening at Microsoft Theater in the city of idols of all sorts–Los Angeles. This season will be nothing short of history in the making as the viewing populace bids good-bye to one of their all time favorite shows. The series will end with a “farewell celebration” and the crowning of the 15th and final American Idol winner on April 7.
